He studied in South London and then returned to West Cornwall to be a development manager for Mustard Seed, a voluntary organisation in Helston, Cornwall[2] and Chapel Street Methodist Church, Penzance.[3] He later started his own small construction business.[2]

He has developed community projects which enable vulnerable adults to have better lives.[4]
