Eoghan Murphy (born April 1982) is an Irish Fine Gael politician. He was elected as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin South-East constituency at the 2011 general election and again in 2016.[1]

Murphy attended St Michael's College, and was educated at University College Dublin (BA, English & Philosophy), and King's College London (MA, International Relations).[2]

Prior to entering politics, Murphy worked in international arms control, specifically in the area of nuclear weapons disarmament. He has worked for the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) in Geneva, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Dublin, and before his election to Dublin City Council he was working as a speechwriter for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) in Vienna.[3]

He was a Dublin City Councillor from 2009 to 2011, having been elected at the 2009 local elections for the Pembroke–Rathmines electoral area.[4]

Murphy does not believe the Ireland's official policy of military neutrality is realistic, and supports ending the "triple lock" in its current form, whereby any permanent member of the United Nations Security Council such as Russia or China has the power to veto Irish military deployments to peacekeeping operations overseas.[5]

He is a brother of the actor Killian Scott.[6]

On 19 May 2016, Murphy was appointed as Minister of State for Financial Services, eGovernment and Public Procurement at the Departments of Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform in the Government of the 32nd Dáil.[7]
