Essequibo Islands-West Demerara (Region 3) is a region of Guyana, split in two by the Essequibo River. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the north, the region of Demerara-Mahaica to the east, the region of Upper Demerara-Berbice to the south and the regions of Pomeroon-Supenaam to the west.

It contains villages such as Parika, Schoon Ord and Uitvlugt. It contains the three of the country's three hundred and sixty five islands at the mouth of the Essequibo, these are Hog Island, Wakenaam and Leguan. The Administrative centre is located in the town of Vreed-en-Hoop.

Population

The Government of Guyana has administered three official censuses since the 1980 administrative reforms, in 1980, 1991 and 2002.[2] In 2002, the population of Essequibo Islands-West Demerara was recorded at 103,061 people.[3] Official census records for the population of Essequibo Islands-West Demerara are as follows:
