The Regimental Coat of Arms (of the 156th Infantry), approved 12 October 1951, is the heraldic representation of the history, tradition, spirit, and loyalty of the unit. By means of the symbolic color of blue, the shield reflects the Regiment's service in the Infantry. the saltire (St. Andrew's Cross), formerly borne on Confederate battle flags, indicates the unit's Confederate heritage; while the leopard, taken from the arms of Normandy, depicts the Regiment's service in Northern
