History

Pre 1997 logo of the British Broadcasting Corporation, designed by Michael Peters - and used from 1988 until 1997. The three colours were used to include the nations - Scotland, Wales, Ireland - and also happen to be the primaries of the colour TV system.

BBC style guidelines refer to this as the "National Logotype" and defined the colours using the Pantone Matching system - the blue is the base colour Process Blue, the red is PMS 485, the green is PMS 354, the blocks are grey PMS432 and with the lettering a solid white. As the original vector version of this logo was monochrome, the equivalent RGB values of these colours have been used to colour the bars and blocks. There were also national variants of this logo - BBC Scotland had three blue underlines - BBC Wales three red underlines - BBC Northern Ireland used green.
