Summary

The Karabiner 98b was another carbine introduced in 1923. It had a similar length to that of the Gewehr 98 and had a turned bolt handle, different rear sights, and a side sling mount on the left side of the first barrel band and the groove cut into the stock. Despite it's overall long length, it was designated a carbine to comply with the Treaty of Versailles in which carbines could only be produced. This rifle also formed the basis for the Mauser Karabiner 98k
