Summary

Gravestone of Samuel Tipton, "Founder of Elizabethton" located at the Green Hill Cemetery in <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Elizabethton,_Tennessee&action=edit&redlink=1" class="new" title="Elizabethton, Tennessee (page does not exist)">Elizabethton, Tennessee</a> (West Mill Street).

January 12, 2010.

It is my understanding that <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Carter_County&action=edit&redlink=1" class="new" title="Carter County (page does not exist)">Carter County</a> was originally named Tipton County in honor of this fellow during the period of the <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Lost_State_of_Franklin&action=edit&redlink=1" class="new" title="Lost State of Franklin (page does not exist)">Lost State of Franklin</a>] (that is to say, during the 1780s and before the State of Tennessee was admitted into the United States).
