Summary

Scutum Fidei on Holy Trinity pulpit. As befits the church's dedication, this device is a visual summary of the mystery of the Trinity. In the corners, Pater, Filius and Spiritus Sanctus (Father, Son and Holy Ghost) are linked to the central Deus (God) by connection marked "est" ("is"); but they are linked to one another by "non est" ("is not"). The device has many variations and seems to have been invented in the 13th century (see Wikipedia article Shield of the Trinity).
