The portrait is known as the '<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chandos_portrait" class="extiw" title="w:Chandos portrait">Chandos portrait</a>' after a previous owner, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Brydges,_1st_Duke_of_Chandos" class="extiw" title="w:James Brydges, 1st Duke of Chandos">James Brydges, 1st Duke of Chandos</a>. It was the first portrait to be acquired by the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Portrait_Gallery_(London)" class="extiw" title="w:National Portrait Gallery (London)">National Portrait Gallery</a> in 1856. |
