The Formula One Timing and Track Positioning Application is a software application for mobile operating systems such as iOS and Android.[1] developed by Soft Pauer Ltd and officially endorsed by the commercial rights holders of Formula One, Formula One Management. The application was released in June 2009, mid-way through the 2009 Formula One season.[2]

Description

The application provides live information relating to Formula One World Championship races (Grands Prix) using either a 3G or wi-fi data connection. The application covers the practice sessions, qualifying session and the race itself at each Grand Prix event. The track positioning part of the application shows the location of each car on a virtual birds-eye view map of the circuit or focus on the location of a particular driver on a 3D circuit map. The developer claims the car positions are accurate to around 200 yards depending on the circuit.[3] The timing part of the application uses the same timing data feeds generated at Formula One race events that are used by the race teams at the venue, to provide timing information to the user. This includes general session and race positions and times, more in-depth timing information for each individual driver such as his fastest lap, weather information and track status. Additional information such as driver biographies and championship standings are also available through the application.[4]

Races can be followed live, or the information from formerly held events can be replayed as live.[5]

Pricing

The application comes in two versions, a Championship Pass, that includes complete access to all the races of the season (2010 has just been released) and a Starter Pass that has a one-off charge to download from the App Store, and a further charge for each Grand Prix to be able to access the timing information for that event.
