François-Louis-Auguste Ferrier (18 April 1777 – 11 January 1861) was a French economist and politician.

Biography

He was born at Île-de-France, Paris, the son of François Ferrier, and Jeanne Rosalie Leroy.

He joined the customs administration in 1797 as a first clerk at the Dunkirk Directorate, and was a sub-inspector in Bayonne in 1802, then an inspector in Worms three years later, and then in Tuscany. Posted to Rome, Ferrier was appointed Director General of Customs on January 22, 1812. Under the Second Restoration, he was demoted to Director of Customs in Dunkirk, where he remained for 26 years until 1841.

President of the agricultural society of the Arrondissement of Dunkirk, he worked for the development of maritime Flanders and was responsible in particular for the roads from Gravelines to Bourbourg and Gravelines to Cassel, as well as for the Saint-Folquin Bridge on the Aa. President of the Departmental council of the Nord in 1834, representing the cantons of Bourbourg and Gravelines, he was appointed Peer of France on December 25, 1841.

The French revolution of 1848 retired him to private life.
