Franz Liebisch (5 February 1921 – 11 February 1945) was an Obersturmführer (First Lieutenant) in the Waffen SS during World War II. He was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, which was awarded to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership by Nazi Germany during World War II.

Early life

Franz Liebisch was born on the 5 February 1921 in Georgswalde. He volunteered to join the SS-Verfügungstruppe and took part in the Anschluss of Austria, the occupation of the Sudetenland in 1938, and the annexation of Bohemia and Moravia on the 15 March 1939. [1]

World War II

During World War II he was awarded the Iron Cross 1st and 2nd class and the Knight's Cross on the 9 February 1945 as an Obersturmführer and Oberleutnant of Schupo in Command of the 1st Squadron, 8th SS Cavalry Division Florian Geyer, 8th SS Cavalry Division Florian Geyer. Liebisch did not survive the war but was killed in action in Budapest on the 12 February 1945. [2]
