Fritz Rentrop (19 November 1917 – 2 February 1945) was a Sturmbannführer (Major), in the Waffen-SS during World War II who was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, which was awarded to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership by Nazi Germany during World War II.
Fritz Rentrop was born on the 19 November 1917. He joined the NSDAP on the 1 January 1936, party number 3708280 and later joined the Waffen SS on the 1 April 1937, his SS service number was 323 804. He was posted to the 2nd SS Panzer Division Das Reich and served with the 2nd Company, 2nd SS Flak Battalion when he was awarded the Knight's Cross, on the 13 October 1941. He later served on the staff in the IV SS Panzer Corps and is believed[by whom?] to have died in February 1945 in Hungary.[citation needed]
