George Cardona

George Cardona is an American linguist and Indologist. He is Professor Emeritus of linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania. Along with Prof. W. Norman Brown, Prof. Ludo Rocher, Prof. Ernest Bender, Prof. Wilhelm Halbfass, and several other Sanskritists, he made the University of Pennsylvania the center of Sanskrit learning in North America. His areas of interest include Indo-European studies and Indian grammatical theory, in particular the Nyaya and Mimamsa schools. He is also known as an authority on Gujarati, for which he has been honored with membership in the Gujarati Sahitya Parishad.
