George Lyall (1779 – 1 September 1853)[1] was Chairman of the Honourable East India Company in 1830.[citation needed] He had a range of other business interests involving shipping. He served as a Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) for the City of London from 1833 to 1835 and again from 1841[2] to 1847.[3] He was born at Newcastle-on-Tyne in Durham, the eldest son of John Lyall and Jane Comyns.[citation needed] He died in London, Middlesex.[citation needed]

His daughter Mary married William Forsyth QC. One of his famous nephews was Alfred Comyn Lyall, the Indian civil servant (1835–1911).[citation needed]
