Gino Gori (7 July 1876 – 24 December 1952) was an Italian writer, poet and philosopher. He is best known as an author of fiction, as a critic and as a theorist of theatrical art and specifically of its renewal in modernist key.

Biography

Gino Gori was born in Rome, the son of Vincenzo Guglielmo and Giovanna Santi. He was an assiduous contributor to several newspapers and magazines, such as Don Quixote, Captain Fracassa, La Vita, La Patria, Don Marzio, L'Ora, Il Tirso, of which he was editor-in-chief (1912–1913), Aprutium of Teramo and Noi e il mondo, monthly illustrated magazine of La Tribuna di Roma. He soon became known as a severe and uncompromising critic.

Anti-clerical and freemason, at the outbreak of the Great War Gori was a committed interventionist. In the post-war period he supported the modernist culture and experimental theater, managing the cabaret of the Hotel Majestic, of which he was the owner. He traveled extensively in Europe (France, Spain, Germany, Russia) and in North America (Mexico, California). On November 30, 1929 he married Giulia Massobrio.

Gori left Rome, and moved to Chianciano, where he bought and managed the Excelsior hotel. Also in Chianciano founded and directed the periodical Il Giornale dell'albergatore.

He died at Sant'Ilario, Genoa.
