Succession President of Mauritius

The Governor-General of Mauritius (French: Gouverneur Général de Maurice) was the acting head of state of Mauritius from 12 March 1968 when the country gained independence as a Commonwealth realm. The Queen Elizabeth II was given the title Queen of Mauritius until 12 March 1992 when Mauritius became a republic. The Governor-General was appointed for an indefinite term, serving at the pleasure of the monarch. After the passage of the Statute of Westminster 1931, the Governor-General was appointed solely on the advice of the Cabinet of Mauritius without the involvement of the British government. In the event of a vacancy, the Chief Justice served as Officer Administering the Government. Both British people and Mauritians held the post.
