Greater Lowell Technical High School (colloquially referred to as the "Voke") is a public vocational high school in Tyngsborough, Massachusetts. The school was founded in 1967 as Lowell Trade School, and then later became Greater Lowell Regional Vocational Technical High School. The name was again changed to Greater Lowell Technical High School. The school serves the city of Lowell and the towns of Tyngsborough, Dracut, and Dunstable. There are 24 technical programs available for students to choose from during their Freshman year at the school. There is an on-site restaurant that is run by the Culinary Arts students, along with a Lowell 5 Bank that is run by the Marketing Education students. Each student has a chance to obtain a Co-Op job during their Junior and Seniors years at the school. A Co-Op job allows a student to directly participate in the workforce as opposed to attending school during their shop week. The majority of the student population at Greater Lowell are from the City of Lowell and the Town of Dracut. However, there are also numerous students from Tyngsborough and Dunstable. The school mascot is the Gryphon. Greater Lowell's school colors are Blue and Gold         , The School also has a monthly newspaper called "The Gryphon Globe".

Administration

The Principal is Jill Davis, who also doubles as the school's assistant superintendent. The school's newest Superintendent is Roger Bourgeois, who took over in the middle of the 2013-2014 School year. There are also three Deans of Discipline who are in charge of the student body: Mr. Fallon, Mr. Costa, and Ms. Zambino. Each Dean is in charge of certain shops and "clusters" within the school. If a student requires any sort of disciplinary action, they report to their assigned Dean for that year.

Athletics

Greater Lowell Tech has numerous athletic teams, which compete mainly in division 3, and 4 of the Commonwealth Athletic Conference, The Greater Lowell cross country track teams are the only teams to compete in division 2. The school has a Varsity, Junior Varsity and Freshman Football Team, along with a Varsity and Junior Varsity Girls and Boys Soccer Team, Varsity and Junior Varsity Baseball, and Softball Teams. They also have a Tennis Team, Cross Country, Track and Field, Girls and Boys Volleyball Team, Girls and Boys Varsity and Junior Varsity Lacrosse, and Swim Team. The School boasts an Olympic Size Swimming Pool as well, which is used for swim meets, and also as a part of the Physical Education Class. Greater Lowell Football has won 5 State Super Bowl Championships under former coach Dennis Murphy along with the Father of Greater Lowell Football the Late Joe Kane.

Project Adventure Course

A low point for many students at Greater Lowell Tech is the Project Adventure Course. This course is offered to students during their Sophomore year Physical Education class. The course consists of many high and low elements that the students must do to earn credit in the course. Greater Lowell has one of the best Project Adventure Courses in the area. Some of the elements are: a Zip line through the trees adjacent to the school, an indoor rock climbing wall, and an element called "The Flying Squirrel", which is when students are harnessed to a rope and belay and are propelled from the floor of the second floor gymnasium to the roof of the gym in a swinging motion.

Rivalry

The Schools Major rival is Shawsheen Valley Technical High School, located in Billerica, Massachusetts. They have an annual Thanksgiving Day football game that is held either at Shawsheen or GLTHS (Alternating Venues Yearly) . The Gryphons haven't won the Thanksgiving game in nearly 14 years.
