Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) is a state owned corporation for passenger transport providing bus services both within state of Gujarat, India and neighbouring states. It has workforce of 50,000.[citation needed]

History

GSRTC was established on 1 May 1960 with formation of Gujarat state. From a beginning of 7 divisions, 76 depots and 7 divisional workshops ; it has gone to 16 divisions, 126 depots, 226 bus stations, 1,554 pick up stands and 8,000+ buses.GSRTC is planning to invest in water transport was well. Boat jetties will be constructed with convention centers on first floor. The corporation is driven by latest technology like 5-gear engine, cushion seat for driver, printed tickets, indicator lights, break lights etc.

In Ahmedabad division Gandhinagar depot has some special buses referred as Vikas Route they also have near about 10 buses Manufactured at AGCL Goa.

GSRTC purchased 1500+ new buses including air conditioned, sleeper coaches Volvo buses in 2009 .[5]

GSRTC provides online and mobile phone ticket booking facility.[6][7] It also provides wi-fi internet service in Volvo buses for free.[8]

Technical

It has built up many technical facilities. Including:

  • Three level maintenance and repair facility - 126 depot workshops, 16 divisional workshops and a central workshop
  • 7 Tyre retreading plant
  • Bus body building plant (1,000 bus bodies/year)
  • Ticket printing press
