Hilary Charlesworth is a feminist international law scholar. Currently, she is an Australian Research Council Federation Fellow, and the director of the Centre for International Governance and Justice at the Australian National University.[1]

She holds degrees from Melbourne and Harvard Law Schools, and is a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria. She has served as editorial member of many legal publications, including the American Journal of International Law, Melbourne University Law Review and Cambridge Studies on International and Comparative Law. Charlesworth's book (co-authored with Christine Chinkin) entitled The Boundaries of International Law: A Feminist Analysis was awarded the Certificate of Merit by the American Society of International Law in 2001. In 2006, her contributions to the body of international law scholarship earned her the American Society of International Law’s Goler T. Butcher Medal. In to her academic appointments, she works for a number of NGOs, including as a Patron of the ACT Women's Legal Service and advisory board member of the Institute for Migrant Rights. In 2011, she was appointed an ad hoc judge of the International Court of Justice in the Whaling in the Antarctic Case (Australia v. Japan).
