The ISD drew international attention to the Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy when they distributed their dossier on the matter throughout the Middle East.

The Islamic Society in Denmark claims that all Muslims in Denmark belong to the organization, regardless of whether or not they have declared themselves to be members [2] (in 2005, there were about 180,000 Muslims in Denmark). The ISD also organizes well-attended prayers on Fridays.

Ahmad Abu Laban, the founder of the ISD, died on February 1, 2007, aged 60.[3]
