Navy Captain James N.J. Aneke was appointed military governor of Imo State in Nigeria from December 1993 to August 1996 during the military regime of General Sani Abacha.[1] Speaking of his administration, Bob Njemanze from the Njemanze ruling dynasty in Owerri, Imo State, described him as "a young man with beautiful ideas but no action."[2] During his period as governor, Owerri was plagued by kidnappings and ritual killings, which he was unable to prevent.[3]
In April 2009, Commodore (retired) James Aneke joined the People's Democratic Party.[4]
