Janata Parivar is a term used in Indian politics to the describe the various political parties that emerged from Janata Dal. The 'Janata Parivar' includes, amongst others, Janata Dal (United) and Janata Dal (Secular).[1][2][3]

On 14 April 2015, the JD(U), JD(S), Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Indian National Lok Dal, Samajwadi Party, and Samajwadi Janata Party announced that they would merge into a new national Janata Parivar alliance in order to oppose the Bharatiya Janata Party.[4][5] The Janata Parivar formation took place ahead of the crucial Bihar Legislative Assembly election, 2015. After the elections, the Samajwadi Party broke from the alliance.[6]
