John Lucas Tupper
John Lucas Tupper (c. 1824 – 29 September 1879) was an English artist, poet, and early member of the Pre-Raphaelite circle.
Biography
John Lucas Tupper was born at Stoke Newington, London, the son of the lithographer George Frederick Tupper. He attended the Royal Academy of Arts from about 1844 and at the same time became an anatomical draftsman at Guy's Hospital. This not only provided an income but reflected his lifelong interest in science. In 1865, he became master of geometrical and scientific drawing at Rugby School. He married Annie Amelia French on 31 December 1871.
Tupper was close friend to William Holman Hunt (later godfather to one of his children[1]) and to William Michael Rossetti who edited a published volume of his poems in 1897.
He contributed letters and articles to The Germ, The Crayon,[2] The Portfolio and other periodicals.[3]
