Joseph Hours
Joseph Hours (29 March 1896 – 17 March 1963) was a French philosopher.
Biography
He was successively an associate professor (1920), a high school teacher in Toulon and Lyon (1928), a teacher at the Lycée du Parc (1936), then a teacher of preparation for the literary schools (Khâgne) at the same Lycée du Parc, as well as at the Political Institute of Lyon.
A few years before the World War II, a team of teachers settled in the Lycée du Parc. Among them, Joseph Hours who was professor of History from 1936 to 1961. During the Occupation, Joseph Hours and one of his students, Gilbert Dru, with the help of a father from the Jesuit scholasticate in Lyon, published clandestinely from 1940 to 1944 twenty-four issues of the Cahiers du Témoignage Chrétien, the foundation of a more than active Resistance network which allowed the cohesion of the various resistance movements of the Southern Zone.
Joseph Hours was one of the founders of the MRP and director of the newspaper La Liberté (1947). He collaborated with Jean Madiran's review Itinéraires from 1956 to 1963.
