Krais of Russia
From Infogalactic: the planetary knowledge core
The Russian Federation is divided into 85 subjects, of which nine are krais, or krays ("edges" or "frontiers", sing. krai or kray). There is no difference between oblasts and krais in the modern Russian Federation, but in the Soviet times the autonomous oblasts could be subordinated to republics or krais (but not to oblasts).
