The Las Vegas Limited was a short-lived weekend-only passenger train operated by Amtrak between Los Angeles, California, and Las Vegas, Nevada. Amtrak began the service on May 21, 1976, with financial support from the state of Nevada. The eastbound train (#782) departed Los Angeles early Friday afternoon and arrived in Las Vegas that evening. The westbound train (#781) departed from Las Vegas Sunday afternoon and arrived in Los Angeles that evening. The train carried a diner, lounge and coaches. Amtrak dropped the service on August 6, citing low patronage and blaming inadequate publicity.[1]

Train service returned to the Los Angeles-Las Vegas route in 1979 with the introduction of the Desert Wind, a daily service between Los Angeles and Ogden, Utah.
