Lavington is a suburb of Nairobi, Kenya. It is a high income residential estate located northwest of the city centre. Lavington belongs to the Westlands administrative division of Nairobi. The bulk of the area now known as Lavington was originally the St Austin's Mission established by the French Holy Ghost Fathers.
The Strathmore School, Saint Mary's, Loreto Convent School, St. Austin's Academy, Braeside High School, Nairobi International School, Lavington Primary School and Rusinga School are located in Lavington.
Chalbi Drive Riparian Construction Controversy
The Chalbi Drive Riparian Construction Controversy 2009 refers to an ongoing controversy/dispute between the residents of Chalbi Drive, Lavington, and Dyke Holdings Limited that was in August 2010 given the go ahead to construct townhouses on what the Green Belt Movement and KARA term to be a riparian reserve. The project was stopped by the Minister of Lands James Orengo in 2009. National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) has however given Dyke Holdings the go ahead to construct the townhomes. The minister stated that the wetland would be gazetted to protect it.[1]
