Chancellors of the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign are individuals who serve in the top position of the university. The office, originally known as "President," was changed to "Chancellor" in 1967 following creation by President David D. Henry. Jack Peltason was appointed by then as the first Chancellor.[1] This then split the responsibility of oversight of the Urbana-Champaign campus. The title "President of The University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign" now refers to the president of the entire University of Illinois system. The current Chancellor of the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign is interim Barbara J. Wilson.[2] The President of the University of Illinois system resides in the Champaign–Urbana metropolitan area in the President's house, while the Chancellor is not given a specific house on the campus but resides in the area.
