List of Royal Air Force & Defence Schools

This is a list of schools within the Royal Air Force, empire flying training scheme, civilian and service elementary training schemes, as well as gliding schools.

Gliding schools

As well as powered aircraft, the Royal Air Force has operated a large number of gliders both for military tasks and for Cadet training.

Training Units

Operational Training Units (OTU)

OTUs were created during WW2 to take the pressure off Operational squadrons, which previously would have had training Flights. Post war they became OCUs

Conversion Units

The RAF have now granted all OCUs Reserve squadron status.
