These guided missile frigates are designed to carry a Sikorsky CH-53 Sea Stallion helicopter, or two Bell-Augusta 212 helicopters. One of them (Sahand) is being fitted-up with armament and avionics/electronics, and will be in service in 2013. There are more planned for construction.

These ships must not be confused with the new Joshan and Paykan, which are part of the Iranian Navy fleet of warships serving in the Caspian Sea.
    • Joshan, Paykan, and Derafsh are (heavily upgraded) Iranian-built versions of this class which Iran calls Sina class.[10]
