These include certification in cave diving, commercial diving, recreational diving, technical diving and freediving. Diver certification agencies are organisations which issue certification of competence in diving skills under their own name, and which train, assess, certify and register the instructors licensed to present courses following the standards for the certification they issue.

Recreational scuba diving certification agencies

Recreational certification organisations no longer operating

  • NASDS - National Association of Scuba Diving Schools (Founded in the 1960s and merged with SSI in 1999)[8][14]
  • TAC - The Aquatic Club - existed in the UK between 1982 and 1986. dissolved organization[15]
  • YMCA SCUBA - Program ceased as of 31 December 2008.[16][17]

  17. ↑ As of 2008, YMCA Scuba has dissolved. Many YMCA Instructors crossed-over to other agencies, such as PDIC, IDEA, MDEA, SSI, NAUI and PADI. Of particular note is the formation of Scuba Educators International started by former YMCA Instructors intending to be a sort of continuum from YMCA Scuba.
