In today's global economy, training in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM)[1][2] is a must for the growth of a stable African economy, and workforce.[3][4] STEM oriented economies perform strongly on a number of economic indicators.[5] Currently, there is a shortage of trained scientists in Africa.[6][7][8][9] There continue to be a number of discussions around the topic of STEM Education in Africa. The British Council's Global innovation Fund piloting micro programs across Africa is one example.[10] Another is FillenScience founded by Armanda Kouassi.[11] The organization is focused on connecting women in Africa interested in math and science with inspirational role models who can help them continue on their STEM paths. Moreover, the relatively recent US$25 million boost in STEM funding to the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences from the MasterCard Foundation will continue to develop science education capacity in South Africa.[12] Other initiatives include PASET, a World Bank funded project which focuses (as one of its goals) on "target skills in Applied Science, Engineering and Technology for specific priority sectors to complement and maximize returns from domestic and foreign investment in these sectors".[13]

Around the world, STEM education initiatives vary in scope, size, type, target populations and funding sources. There has been extensive discussions around the STEM pipeline. This is a list of organizations that are currently engaged in STEM Education activities and outreach across Sub-Saharan Africa. The organizations range in size, scope, funding mechanisms, and mission statements. However, they are all focused on improving STEM Education[14] in the continent.

Some countries are not on the list, This is due to the fact that they have no STEM programs.
