Liverpool2 will be on a triangle of reclaimed land between the Gladstone river lock and the white sheds.

Liverpool2 is an extension to the Seaforth Dock container terminal built by Peel Ports that is scheduled to be operational in 2016.[1] The terminal extension will be able to accommodate two "post-Panamax vessels simultaneously".[2][3] The terminal is being built on reclaimed land using material dredged from the River Mersey. The dredged material provides the necessary clearance in the approach channels for visiting ships.[4]

An upgrade to the Canada Dock Line was announced in May 2016 that would allow up to 48 trains a day to visit the port. Upgrade of the line is expected to be complete by 2019.[5]
