Lommel is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg. On January 1, 2014, Lommel had a total population of 33,744.[2] The total area is 102.37 square kilometres (39.53 sq mi), which gives a population density of 312/km2 (807/sq mi).

The municipality consists of the following communities: Balendijk, Barrier, Gelderhorsten, Heeserbergen, Heide-Heuvel, Kattenbos, Kerkhoven, Kolonie, Lommel Centrum, Lutlommel, Stevensvennen, Lommel-Werkplaatsen, and Blauwe Kei.

The official language of Lommel is Dutch, but there is also an unofficial dialect called Lommels that is mostly spoken by indigenous people of lommel. Lommels is a cherished heritage language with rooted historical background that it continues to be spoken in this modern days. This dialect ('lommels' as it is called by people of Lommel) is part of the spoken autochthonous Kempenlands language (an East Brabantian dialect, which is very similar to colloquial Dutch).[3]

Lutlommel

Lutlommel, one of 10 hamlets of Lommel, is known for its many archeological sites and its very fine, white sand. Kafe de Kroon is one of the oldest and most popular cafes in the town.
