Luc Steels

Luc Steels (born 1952) is a Belgian scientist and artist, and Director of the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He also founded the Sony Computer Science Laboratory in Paris (now directed by François Pachet) and was a visiting researcher at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. Steels is considered a pioneer in Artificial Intelligence who has made important contributions to expert systems, behaviour-based robotics (a term which he coined), artificial life and evolutionary linguistics.
