Macedonia in the Eurovision Song Contest

Macedonia has officially announced that its participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 and will participate under "FYR Macedonia", to be held in Oslo, Norway. The country selected its entry through the festival Skopje Fest, which consisted of two semi-finals and a final, organised by MKRTV between 18 and 20 February. The winner of the contest was Gjoko Taneski feat. Billy Zver & Pejcin with the song "Jas ja imam silata", which tied for first place in the final with Vlatko Ilievski.[1]

Skopje Fest 2010

MKRTV organised Skopje Fest 2010 in February 2010. Two semi-finals were held, each containing 14 songs. 8 songs qualified to the final from each semi-final, and the final 16 songs competed to represent Macedonia in Oslo in the final. The voting consisted of televoting, and the votes of a 6-member jury, with each consisting of 50% of the total vote. The voting window for the televoting begun at the start of the show, and end 15 minutes after the final song is performed, as it was in the international contest.

MRKTV announced the 28 songs and songwriters on 30 December, and their artists on 12 January.[2] The running order for the two semi-finals was revealed on 4 February.

Semi-final 1

The first semi-final of Skopje Fest 2010 was held on 18 February. 14 acts competed in the show, with eight selected by both a public televote and a professional jury vote to qualify to the final on 20 February.[3]

Semi-final 2

The second semi-final of Skopje Fest 2010 was held on 19 February. Another 14 acts competed in the show, with another eight finalists selected by a public televote and a professional jury.[4]

Final

The final of Skopje Fest 2010 was held on 20 February. The 16 semi-final qualifiers performed again for the jury and televoting public - in Macedonia, as well as is Canada, Australia, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey - who decided the winner. After the 16 performances there were a number of guest performances: Juliana Pasha, the 2010 Albanian entry; Vukašin Brajić, the 2010 entry from Bosnia and Herzegovina; and Karolina Gočeva, former Macedonian entry in 2002 and 2007.[1]

After the jury and televoting made their decisions, there was a tie for first place between Gjoko Taneski feat. Billy Zver & Pejcin and Vlatko Ilievski, who both received 22 points. Gjoko Taneski feat. Billy Zver & Pejcin was declared the winner after receiving the most votes from the jury members, which took precedence over the televoting.[1]

Macedonia competed 15 out of 17 entries competing in the first Semi-final, the countries entry failed to make it to the final.
