Manvi is a town in Raichur district in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is one of the taluks (administrative divisions) in Raichur district. It has Cotton & paddy fields irrigated by water from the Tunga Bhadra left bank canal.

Geography

Demographics

As of 2011 India census,[2] Manvi had a population of 46,465. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Manvi has an average literacy rate of 47%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 55%, and female literacy is 39%. In Manvi, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Politics

Many leaders from Manvi participated in Freedom struggle and also during Hyderabad Karnataka Liberation. Leaders like Sri Syed Nazeerudhin Quadri Saheb Is the First Uncountest President in manvi taluk Sri Channabasappa Bettadooru(Mr Bettadur (89) was a social thinker, a Kannada activist, and a folk-lorist. When Urdu and Marathi were the major medium of instruction in this region during the rule of the Nizam of Hyderabad, Mr Bettadur worked for the growth of Kannada here. Mr Bettadur has also the distinction of translating the stories of Bankim Chandra Chatterji to Kannada. He had also fought for the unification of Kannada speaking areas. His noted books are "Musuku There", "Amarananda" & "Sallalita sanmarga" (Mr. Bettadur has received "Dr. Joladarashi Doddanagowda Grantha Prashasthi" for his work on Sallalita Sanmarga))and Sri Shanakaragouda Bettadooru were key figures from the region in spreading the message among them and leading from the front

Importance

  • THE HISTORIC FORT {KHILLA} it is located on the hill of Konapurpet road. Every 15th AUGUST and 26th JANUARY the National Flag hoisting top of the Fort and it is very important one.Also attachment hill of Sri Gouse peer hill. Behind the said hill one lake available which is very oldest one.
  • This is hometown of the great Madhva follower and dasa Sri Jagannatha Dasa, who wrote the Harikathamruthasara. It is also famous for Kalmath (Hindu Matt). It has many Hindu deity Sri Chowdeshwari, Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy located on the hill that covers the old town in semi circle and also Sri Annamayya taata self-styled Holy man has many followers.   • This is hometown of the another one great and oldest Masque {Shahi-Masjid} JUMMA-MASJID [An old Masque-Jami Masjid]it is located at Cement road Manvi, the said Masjid is Ancient, inter and outer MINARS/GUMBAZ are purely designed by Black stones.which is shows the BHAMANI orADILSHAHI period, [this structure has notified by the Hyd- official Gazette in the year of 1953, [Vide Order No. 40/1/111/Arch/51 Dated 12-01-1953, Sl. No. 77] as Protected Archaeological Monuments and also Govt.Of Karnataka has notified [Rajya Smarakagalu/Nelegalu]in the Year of 1961 [under the Karnataka Arch.Sy Manot,act 1961}and beside the Masjid Ashorkhana HASSAN -HUSSAIN,BIBI-FATIMA& Well. previously the grandfather Late Sri MAGDOOM SAB was PeshImam (care taker)of said Masque after that his son and presently his Grandson-Sri Md.Ahmed Hussain and his Sons have been maintaining this old structures since from immemorial, and behind of the said Masjid, the house of Md.Asif Hussain Advocate, Manvi.
  • The Pale Hanumappa it is located the hill,Rajaldinni road, also one famous temple of Shiva Temple located at Near way of Mallikarjuna hill. also one oldest Temple of sri Chowdeshwari located at near vegetable market.
  • The great another old structure of Manvi Court, Near Tahsil office, opp: Police station.
  • The Anicient Two Bridges one located at Jummalduddi road, another one is located at Khila, Near Tippu Sultan Chowk. Cement road, also one oldest Dargha Shiak Fariduddin located at left side of Court complex.

Manvi is now the home for many institutions like Ayurvedic college by Kalmatha Group of Institutions,L.M.G.S Manvi convent school, S K M Q SAHEB SCHOOL ,Gandhi memorial school, Sharada and Kakateeya school, B.V.R School are some of the institutions contributing to the education here.And Adarsha vidyalaya school Manvi.

and also other oldest Govt schools & Colleges i.e., Kumbar school, Urdu primary school, Adapurpet School, Konapurpet school, Girls school, Boys high school & pre-university college and Govt. First grade college Sidhnahoor road Manvi.

Tourism

  • Manvi is also famous the ancient Manvi Fort that is located on the Manvi hill. and Sri Sabjalli Sattat hill, Mallikarjuna hill, pale Hanumappa.
  • Cheekalaparvi is a village on the banks of Tungabhadra River. Cheekalaparvi is the birthplace of Sri Vijaya Dasaru.
  • Kallur archaeological site is a Copper Hoard culture site in Manvi taluk of Raichur. Kallur archaeological site is 20 km Manvi. It is located on Manvi-raichur road.
  • Watgal is a prehistoric site. Neolithic grey ware of Brahmagiri fabric and Jorwe fabric has been excavted in the village.[5]
  • Rajalabanda is a village on the banks of Tungabhadra River where people go for picnic.
  • Visit for Sri Jagannatha Dasara Temple situated in manvi the famous historical temple in manvi among one of the Sri Daasa parampare

Manvi is well connected by road to Bangalore, Hubli, Hyderabad, Bagalkot and other major cities. The nearest airport is in major airport is in Hyderabad.
