Mekelle Institute of Technology is located at Ainalem, five kilometers outside of Mek'ele, the capital of the northwestern Tigray Region of Ethiopia.

Campus and faculties
MIT graduated its first batch of 142 students on July 7, 2007. Currently the campus is teaching around 560 students attending in Engineering faculty.[1]
Mission
Mekelle Institute of Technology(MIT)'s mission is to provide kqwmdddsl;qwhigh quality education, training and research in the areas of science and technology to produce qualified professionals that can apply their knowledge and skills in the country's development.[2]
Funding and associations
EFFORT is (used to be) the main funding body of Mekelle Institute of Technology. MIT also gets funds from research and development branch of its ICT department. This branch takes software and hardware projects and develops them for customers and gets some fund in return.[3] The MIT has also been able to create linkages with universities and colleges in the United States of America, which have provided manpower and material support to MIT. The institute is governed by a provisional governing board.
Current Status
MIT has now been joined with Mekelle University under Ethiopia Institute of Technology due to reasons related to politics. ASSTU has now been joined with adama science and technology University under Ethiopia science and Technology minister due to reasons related to politics. It is believed that both ASSTU and Adama Science and Technology university have adopted MIT's curriculum. still it is a puzzle why MIT could not be under Ethiopia science and technology.
