Mohamed El Maadid
Mohamed Ghanem El Ali El Maadid (Arabic: محمد غانم العلي المعاضيد) is a Qatari physician, retired general and writer. He is widely regarded as a pioneering figure in the development of the sports medicine field in Qatar.[1] He has been involved in sports medicine projects in the country since 1991.[1]
He has been vice president of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (IFRC) since 2009 and vice president of Qatar Red Crescent Society since 2005. He is also a member of the Medical Committee of FIFA, joining in 2010.[2]
Education
In 1987, he graduated from Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland. He received master's degree in epidemiology in 1992 from University of Wales and PhD from the same university in 1996.[2]
Career
From 1991 to 1999, he directed the medical center of the Qatar Athletics Association.[1] He played an instrumental role in developing Aspetar, an orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital. He managed the hospital as director general from 2003 to 2012.[1] In 2009, it was accredited as a FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence.[3]
He founded the National Anti-Doping Commission in Qatar in 2005 and in 2012, he established the Qatar Anti-Doping Laboratory.[1] The same year, he was involved in establishing an advisory office for healthcare projects for the representative of the emir.[4]
Apart from sports medicine, he has authored two books.[2]
