Munghana Lonene FM is an SABC radio station broadcasting in Tsonga language in South Africa. In Tsonga, "Munghana Lonene" means "a true friend." Munghana Lonene FM is geared to listeners who understand Xitsonga. Munghana Lonene FM is branded as an "infotainment" radio station with a 50% split of music and talk. It offers an environment interactive with its listeners, providing a mixture of news, music, current affairs, talk shows, education, sport, weather and traffic. The music repertoire consists of Jazz, R&B, Kwaito, House, Gospel music and African music.

History

On 1 February 1965, initial programmes in the Tsonga language were broadcast for listeners in the then Northern Transvaal, from the Johannesburg studios of the South African Broadcasting Corporation, at that time situated in Broadcast House, Commissioner Street. This service later became known as Radio Tsonga. On 1 February 1984 Radio Tsonga was also broadcast on medium wave from Pietersburg (now Polokwane). On 1 May of the same year, coverage was extended to listeners in Soweto via a low power FM transmitter atop the SABC building at Auckland Park.

Now the station manager is former presenter and Radio 2000 manager, James Shikwamabane[1] after Tsakani Baloyi left the station in 2011. Lawrence Ubisi, programmes manager and Vongi Nkanyane, marketing manager. to keep listeners interested the station has a team of presenters. From 07:00–09:00 Phaphama breakfast is hosted by Sydney Baloyi, DJ Brian Rikhotso and Rhandzu Mthombeni(sports presenter)and produced by Tebogo Jacko Magubane, from 09:00–12:00 Khensani Nyango hosts a women magazine show called Gingirikani, from 12:00–15:00 Khalanga Pat Mathebula gives the listeners current affairs talk show Afrika Wa Vulavula, from 13:00–15:00 N'wana N'wa Gee gives the listeners music show Dzumba na mina. from 15:00–18:00 The Quintinizer and Connizer come with the afternoon drive show called 326 Thwii, 18:00–19:00 The current affairs team takes onto air Tiko axi etleli. 19:00–20:00 Matthews Mokoena hosts the Etimbaleni previously hosted by the famous James Shikwambana and more shows follow. The station has educational programmes produced by Bella Nyathi, and Morgan Shivambu hosts shows Mondays to Fridays (excluding Wednesday)at 21:00–22:00. Thembzana Reloaded hosts the station's music chart show called Switshongo on Saturdays 07:00–10:00. Munghana Lonene FM is proud of its culture Xitsonga, a traditional presenter Bongani Sithole or DJ SoulCrusher hosts a show called Gongomela from Mondays to Thursdays at 22:00–00:00. Every Tuesday night Bishop Mlungisi Erasmus Malungani of Don't Blame God International Ministries hosts Hi Tshovela Leswi hi swi byalaka (We reap what we sow) from 11 pm, talking about various topics at hand with listener feedback.

Former sports presenter James Swikwambane has won more National and International Awards; he was now the Station Manager from May 2012 to September 2016. As of 01 December 2016, Lawrence Ubisi is the Station Manager.

As of 04 February 2020, OVHD adding a SABC Radio.
