The Nandi Award for Best Actor was commissioned by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Nandi Awards committee in 1965. The best actor award starts with 1977.The winner is awarded a "Silver Nandi", "Shri Rajendra Prasad Gold Medal", cash award and a commendation certificate.[1] Venkatesh is the only actor to have won the best actor award five times, followed by Kamal Haasan, Jagapati Babu, Chiranjeevi, Akkineni Nagarjuna and Mahesh Babu with three wins each. Five actors have won the award twice: M. Prabhakar Reddy, Krishnam Raju, Rajendra Prasad, Dasari Narayana Rao and Nandamuri Balakrishna.
