National Institute of Textile Engineering and Research (NITER) is a textile school in Savar, Dhaka, Bangladesh, offering the Bachelor of Science degree in textile engineering in coordination with the University of Dhaka. The school is a partnership between the "Bangladesh Textile Mills Association" and the Government of Bangladesh Ministry of Textiles and Jute. It offers residential education with separate student hostels for men and women.

About

From 2010-11 session NITER started B. Sc. In Textile Engineering course under The University of Dhaka. NITER offers B. Sc. In Textile Engineering degree under Engineering and Technology Faculty of The University of Dhaka and some other short and long courses which is needed for a Textile professional's. Again it offers Testing of Textile materials because it has the largest and highly equipped Textile testing Laboratory in Bangladesh.

Admission procedures and entry requirements

Admission to NITER is highly competitive and needs a high academic attainment at the S.S.C and H.S.C level. Selection of the students for admission is made through an admission test of 120 marks under "Technology unit" of The University of Dhaka and considering GPA of S.S.C and H.S.C or equivalent examinations (Details in admission notice). Students get chance to take admission according to merit.

Yarn Engineering (YE) department

Yarn Engineering department in NITER is equipped with a Full Length Production Line machinery. This department is to provide theoretical and practical training to both internal and external students and professionals in this field.

Fabric Structure and Design (FSD) Laboratory

Fabric Structure and Design Lab also includes all necessary equipments required to analyze any woven or knitted structure.

Wet Process Engineering (WPE) department

This department has been equipped with lab-scale versatile equipment for chemical processing of textile fabrics, yarns and fibers. In addition, various training programs including pretreatment, dyeing & finishing are conducted in this department on regular basis.

Wet Process Engineering Laboratory

Controlled experiments starting from preparatory processes, dyeing, printing and finishing including coating, can be performed in this laboratory. Machineries in this department:

Apparel Engineering (AE) department

Technology is changing swiftly. Once we used manual processes in Apparel Manufacturing which now have been replaced with modern technologies. New generation now uses customized software for Fashion Design, Virtual Modeling, Garments CAD for Pattern and Marker Development and Robotic Spreader and Cutter. It consists of the following two labs:

Contains all type of machineries except CAM.

Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Laboratory

Equipped with software starting from Fashion Design to Virtual Modeling, Pattern and Marker Development, Digitizer and Plotter.

The Test Methods generally followed are ISO, AATCC, ASTM, BS, BSEN and BSEN ISO as per buyer’s requests. Machineries in this department:

NITER Library has adequate number of Textile Engineering related books. The Library has the new edition of Textile Engineering related books. Now total number of books & journals in NITER Library is more than 10000. Besides, technical magazines are also available in this library so that the trainees could acquire knowledge on modern textile technology.
