Philadelphia in 2014 officially had its nickname updated to "The City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection." It is popularly referred to as The City of Brotherly Love, which comes from the literal meaning of the city's name in Greek (Greek: Φιλαδέλφεια ([pʰilaˈdelpʰeːa], Modern Greek: [filaˈðelfia]) "brotherly love", compounded from philos (φίλος) "loving", and adelphos (ἀδελφός) "brother").[1]

Philadelphia is also frequently shortened to simply Philly /fɪli/.
