ONLYOFFICE (formerly Teamlab Office) is a multifunctional online office suite integrated with CRM system, document and project management toolset, Gantt chart and email aggregator. ONLYOFFICE is written in ASP.NET and translated to 21 languages (as of October 2014).

Deployment Solutions

ONLYOFFICE is available in two deployment solutions:[2]

  • The SaaS version is intended for organizations interested in a ready-to-use service. Users can quickly start their corporate portal which is maintained and regularly updated by Ascensio System and hosted by Amazon.
  • ONLYOFFICE source code is listed on GitHub. The installation is available for download and deployment on own servers.

OnlyOffice Features

Office Suite

ONLYOFFICE includes an online office application suite working within a browser. It combines text, spreadsheet and presentation editors that include features similar to Microsoft desktop editors (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), but then allow to co-edit,[3] comment and chat in real time.[4]

Technology

ONLYOFFICE Office Suite is based on HTML5 Canvas element.[5]

Document Management

ONLYOFFICE provides the following capabilities for users to organize and manage documents:

  • Document sharing in view /edit modes;
  • Embedding documents into a website;
  • Integration with file storage systems: Google Drive, Box, OneDrive, Dropbox, OwnCloud;
  • Integration with CRM, email aggregator and project management module.

CRM

An instrument for coordination of work with clients and partners that includes the following features:

  • Contact list, opportunities, tasks, client history;
  • Web2lead form integrated with a client's website;
  • Invoicing;
  • Integration with Documents module and email.

Project Management + Gantt Chart

Collaboration within ONLYOFFICE is possible by the means of task delegation and human resources allocation. The following tools are available:

  • Project hierarchy - milestones, tasks, subtasks;
  • Time tracking - information about the time spent on a particular task. Allows for detailed time expenditure statements.
  • Reports - a tool for either automatic or manual report generation on open tasks or projects that fall behind.
  • Discussions - a platform for brainstorming within a project.
  • The Gantt Chart - a tool that allows for project visualization and clear understanding of task dependencies.

Mail

A mail management tool that offers the following features:

  • Mail Server, based on iRedMail package, developed to create corporate mailboxes using own domain name;
  • Mail Aggregator for several email account management.

The main advantage is integration with CRM and Documents modules.

  • Emails to CRM contacts can be sent directly from the profile page.
  • A separate email or a thread can be bounded with CRM elements.
  • Attachments can be taken directly from the Documents module.

Community

A set of tools for efficient collaboration within a team:

  • Blogs and forums - for maintaining company's blog and exchanging ideas with colleagues;
  • News, events, bookmarks - for sharing the latest news and announcements with the team;
  • Wiki - for generation of a corporate knowledge base.

History

Before rebranding that took place in July 2014 ONLYOFFICE was distributed as Teamlab and Teamlab Office

  • Teamlab started out in December 2009 as a simple collaboration platform that encompassed several social computing features (blog, forum, wiki, bookmarks). Since then product has been improved to meet companies‘ growing demands in project management functionality.
  • In July 2010 Ascensio System released 2 new modules[6] in addition to Community: Projects (intended to simplify project management) and Talk (corporate instant messenger).
  • In March, 2011 the company released a new enhanced version 3.0, which included a fourth module – Documents (intended for storing, sharing, co-authoring, editing files right on the portal).
  • By October 2011 Project management, Business collaboration and Document management modules became available on Android or iOS mobile devices. A month later two more modules were introduced, namely, Calendar and CRM.
  • In March 2012 Teamlab introduced the first HTML5 based Document Editor at CeBIT 2012[7]
  • July 2012 was marked with integration of user accounts in Google Docs, Box, SkyDrive and Dropbox with Teamlab workspace.
  • In December 2012 Teamlab reached the final of Startup Battlefield at TechCrunch Moscow, was monetized and renamed as Teamlab Office.
  • In December, 2013 Ascensio System SIA released Teamlab Personal - cloud workspace, including Canvas-based processors for text documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Teamlab Personal is distributed freely for individual use.
  • In July, 2014 Teamlab Office was officially rebranded to ONLYOFFICE and the source code of the product was published on Sourceforge and Github, making ONLYOFFICE the first opensource online office suite.
  • In December, 2014 ONLYOFFICE Linux version was released.[8]
  • In April, 2015 Ascensio System SIA announced the Online Editors Linux version release[9][10] and launched a new website for open source solution - onlyoffice.org
