Pam Damoff is a Canadian Liberal politician, who was elected to represent the riding of Oakville North—Burlington in the House of Commons of Canada in the 2015 federal election.[1]
Damoff attended the University of Western Ontario, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. Her first job was in Ottawa, working for London-West MP Jack Burghardt. Following Burghardt's defeat in the 1984 general election, she moved to Toronto to begin work at a small boutique investment dealer, McLean McCarthy (which was purchased by Deutsche Bank in 1987). Specializing in financial analysis for large commercial real estate transactions, she moved with the real estate team to create the Real Estate Invesment Banking division of Midland Walwyn, which was subsequently purchased by Merrill Lynch. She worked as a consultant on Bay Street from 2004 to 2015.
She co-founded Cycle Ontario to promote cycling and improve cycling infrastructure and received the 2013 Bicycling Leadership Award for her promotion of cycling in Ontario. She is Chair of Oakville’s Santa Claus Parade and Terry Fox Run, and is a member of the organizing committee of the Courage Polar Bear Dip.
She is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and the Paul Harris Fellow Award for community service, She also received the Top 40 Fabulous Women Over 40 Excellence Award for Community Leadership.
She was elected to the Oakville Town Council representing Ward 2 in 2010, and re-elected in 2014 with over 80% of the vote. During her time on Council, she served on the Oakville Public Library Board, the Budget Committee and the Oakville Tourism Partnership.
Oakville Ward 6 councilor Max Khan was the initial Liberal Party candidate for Oakville North—Burlington in the 2015 federal election, but he died suddenly in March 2015, leaving a need to nominate a new candidate.[2] Damoff announced her candidacy for the nomination on April 29, 2015, with the support of Khan's father.[3] She subsequently secured the nomination, and won the following general election.
She was sworn in to office on November 14, 2015. She was named Vice Chair of the Standing Committee on the Status of Women in December 2015. She is also a member of several Parliamentary Committees, Associations and inter-parliamentary groups, including the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security.
