Petit-serif

Petit-serifs or petits-serifs are small serifs (petit is French for "small"), which are attached to regular sans-serif fonts.

An example of this is the version of London Underground's Johnston typeface created by Percy Delf Smith.[1] This was used at the Underground Electric Railways Company of London's headquarters, 55 Broadway, and some early 1930s Underground stations. A modern version, Johnston Delf Smith, is used by Transport for London for some historic signage.[2]
