Richard Tousey

Richard Tousey (May 18, 1908 – April 15, 1997)[1] was an American astronomer.[2]

He was a pioneer in the observation of the sun from space, and took the first photographs of the sun's ultraviolet spectrum, using a captured V-2 rocket.[1]

In 1960 he was awarded the Frederic Ives Medal by the OSA. He won the Henry Draper Medal from the National Academy of Sciences in 1963,[3] the Eddington Medal in 1964, and the Henry Norris Russell Lectureship in 1966.
