The Very Reverend Robert Gregory, DD (9 February 1819 – 2 August 1911)[1][2] was a reforming Anglican Dean[3] in the last decade of the 19th century[4] and the first one of the 20th.[5]

Biography

Robert Gregory was educated at Corpus Christi College, Oxford. There he distinguished himself by gaining the 'Denyer Theological Prize Essay'.[6] He was ordained in 1843 [7] and began his career with a curacies at Bisley, Wragby and Lambeth.

He was later Vicar of St Mary the Less, Lambeth[8] from 1853 to 1873. After this he was a Canon at St Paul’s Cathedral[9] before succeeding to the Deanery[10] in 1891.[11] In 1873 he was elected to the School Board for London.[12] His son later became Bishop of Mauritius.
