S.H. Hashmi (1935–20 March 2006) was born in Gaya, India, in 1935, and the son of renowned scholar Allama Syed Abdul Qudoos Hashmi. He was the founding member and the former Managing Director of Orient McCann-Erickson Pakistan, belonged to a well-known literary family of Bihar. He received President’s Pride of Performance Award, the FIRST Award in Advertising, from Sardar Farooq Ahmed Leghari, President, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, on 25 March 1997. He is included in Who’s Who in the World’s 500 Leading Personalities. He has also been awarded The Harrison McCann Leadership Award for consistent industry leadership in Pakistan.

His father Allama Syed Abdul Qudoos Hashmi was a renowned Islamic scholar. He was author and compiler of Taqweem-e-Tarikhi, the historical Islamic Calendrical Book, giving a comparative study of Hijra and Gregorian calendars for the period spanning 1,500 years; published by the Islamic Research Centre in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Hashmi has received many awards and citations from Presidents and Prime Ministers of Pakistan in recognition of his service and personal contribution towards promoting the advertising and media industry in Pakistan. He has led numerous advertising delegations to foreign countries, including delegations to the IAA World Advertising Congress and the Asian Advertising Congress. He has also chaired the Pakistan Advertising Association.

Hashmi died at the age of 71 in Karachi after a prolonged illness which was repeatedly complicated with bouts of pneumonia and other complicating factors. He left behind his wife, two sons, Masood and Mahmood, and three daughters. All of his children are married.
